Found the story on this in the Sudbury Star dated August 3, 2012 Fish Bowl closes The Fish Bowl restaurant located at the corner of the Lasalle Court Mall is closed after apparently falling tens of thousands of dollars behind on the rent. The notice on the door of the restaurant, posted by Kay Bailiff and Adjustment Inc., states that the landlord, Laurentian Shield Properties Inc., has taken action against the Fish Bowl’s owners for rent. The restaurant was officially seized at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. From that point, they had five days to pay the sum that they owe. "For rent arrears and additional rent arrears," said the notice of distress. The notice said the restaurant owes $87,519.12. The goods of the restaurant — the furniture and other tangible property — have been removed by the bailiff, and the locks have been changed on the store. If the rent is not paid, the goods could then be sold as compensation. The seafood restaurant is based in Timmins, launched by sisters Louise and Lise Cantin They opened a 160-seat Sudbury location in 2009, after spending $1 million and hiring 75 people. At the time, the Cantins told The Star they hoped if would be the beginning of an aggressive expansion campaign. "We have always wanted to come to Sudbury," Louise said in an interview with The Star three years ago. The Cantins have had a lot of success in their hometown and at their third restaurant location in Barrie. Calls placed by The Star to the Cantins were not returned. www.thesudburystar.com/2012/08/03/fish-bowl-closes

I think the Barrie Fishbowl, closed even before the Sudbury one did, can't compete with Red Lobster, I guess..

There was also supposed to be a Quebec City location with local ownership, but I don't think they even opened their doors.
I'm hearing food quality was a major issue at both the Barrie and Sudbury locations.
